We share our beaches in Key Biscayne with the threatened loggerhead sea turtle from May 1st to October 31st. Artificial lighting may deter females from nesting and can prevent hatchlings from reaching the water. You can help protect sea turtles by following these tips:
Turn off all non-essential beachfront lighting.
Replace incandescent and fluorescent bulbs with red or amber LED bulbs.
Reduce lighting visible from the beach by lowering, shielding, recessing, and/or redirecting fixtures.
Use draperies or blinds to reduce interior lighting.
Keep balcony lighting shielded or off after 9:00 PM.
Do not use flashlights or flash photography on the beach at night. Bonfires are prohibited.
Do not disturb nesting sea turtles, nests, eggs or hatchlings on our beach.
